Speakers of Danish and Norwegian will naturally understand some Swedish, especially when spoken slowly. Understanding sometimes does not work both ways. Pronunciation of Danish makes it the hard to understand. Norwegians have the 'keenest ear' to understand Swedish. Dialectal variation in Norwegian is quite large. Moreover Norway has two language varieties: Bokmål and Nynorsk (mainly spoken in the South-West of Norway). The channel "Say it in Swedish" shows an interesting introductory video on mutual understanding of Scandinavian languages.

Another good video on this channel is the crash course on pronunciation:

Swedish learners speaking a different Germanic language have an easier time since there are quite a lot of cognates (but also quite a few false friends). Sometimes the meaning of a cognate has shifted in one language, but not in the other.

Dutch or German speaking Swedish learners are commonly fluent at English also. Hence they may recognize cognates in either one Germanic language.
