In this video both protagonists exchange ideas. Steve Kaufmann started learning languages rather late in life. He had been in the lumber business for most of his life. Stephen Krashen is an academic who has been focusing on the didactics of acquiring languages for most of his academic career. He gained notoriety in the 1980's. Both share the same ideas.

Until the late 1970's the main focus has been on reading in the new language as a way to maximize comprehensible input. There was no internet and even audiotapes and cassettes were not widely available. Berlitz and Assimil courses were the main vectors for learning a new language outside the school teaching approach.
